delamere road - internal wall insulation
Whilst the back of the property was covered in external wall insulation to improve the prospect at the rear this was not appropriate for the front as it is a mid terrace house.
As the client had removed all of the plaster as a result of moisture levels, we advised replastering in vapour permeable plaster.
We tried a new product from Adaptavate called Breathaplaster. This is a lime plaster with hemp shiv in it, to speed up the drying out of the plaster (lime takes much longer to go off than gypsum). However, so much water had to be applied to the bare masonry to hold the plaster to the wall that this advantage was lost. The hemp shiv gives a slightly textured finish which the client liked. Upstairs we used Baumit lime plaster. Both enable moisture in the walls to evaporate into the house where it can be removed by the ventilation system
- Woodfibre insulation boards dry fitted before being mechanically fastened
The UdiInReco insulation used is a woodfibre that wicks moisture from the masonry with which it is in contact. This allows the wall insulation to assist in drying out this very damp house, rather than trapping moisture which can lead to further damage. It has to be fitted onto the masonry with no gypsum in between but as the original plaster had fallen off or been removed this insulation choice was logical.
It was covered with vapour permeable plaster and lime plaster skim
