red have worked out a system for identifying retrofit details in a way that would allow them to be easily found later for similar homes. These details are now online in the form of a Pattern Book that enables others to both comment on our details and submit their own so that we can radically improve the quality of the construction detailing on people’s retrofits.
Poor detailing is a major cause of failure to reach energy targets - lack of care especially around junctions including eaves and windows cause “cold bridges” which mean that parts of the structure are cold, leading to problems with higher heating costs, condensation and damage to the building. The Pattern Book aims to give everyone the chance to share best practice and to discuss what worked, as well as what didn’t.
