design, development and delivery

red are leading experts in creating beautiful, ecologically sound building improvements.

At red we have ethical principles at our core. We go out of our way to find the best recycled, low carbon, environmentally friendly materials. We are a workers coop who pay our staff at least a living wage. We minimise our carbon emissions by reducing, re-using and recycling and for smaller jobs we’ll turn up with the tools and materials in our bike trailer.

We are a design led company and we like things to be beautiful - if you are going to spend money reducing your energy use it should look better afterwards.

We are interested in sustainability of cities and how buildings can be reused and areas regenerated to avoid the wasteful cycle of construction and demolition.  We also like to make individual components, like furniture, lights and bringing artists’ ideas to life.

Using red is a move towards to sustainability for everybody: we’ve launched the Retrofit Pattern Book as a commitment to our core principles of openness, transparency and a better world for all.  When we find a new and better way of working, we share it.

We learned from starting to refurbish our own house, which achieved an 81% reduction in energy use. We still use it as a test bed for experimental ideas, you can see the process in our superhome blog

red co-operative’s Whole House Assessment Method will provide an action plan for your home that highlights the most effective measures.  You can chose to carry out all of the work at once, or have different areas insulated as your needs and budget allows.  We also use a number of assessment methods including PHPP to assess the energy needs of non-residential buildings.

We will help you decide on a plan for your building and give you a clear price if you want us to carry out the work.  We can analyse where your heat is leaving from and how much you are likely to save to help with your decision making.

We carry out work to make buildings more efficient.  Both our own direct employees and our sub-contractors have been trained to understand the issues which can affect the performance of insulation measures.

We work with larger organisations to create long term strategies including retrofit strategies, energy strategies and eco refurbishment.

We provide urban design advice and create plans to facilitate regeneration by adding new buildings which work with existing structures to improve the sustainability of areas, by providing local employment, walkable neighbourhoods and good local infrastructure.
